Sometimes, ideas come out of necessity. In 2007 I renovated a space in my studio building for a new gallery. I had invited a group of artists from Arizona, Nevada and California to come out and fire the anagama with me, and wanted to do a big exhibition of the work in the new gallery space. I was thinking about the opening night, how it might play out with hosting a few hundred people, and food and drinks were part of the thinking. I wanted to do a nice presentation for the wine service, and decided to make a group of ice buckets for the wine specifically for the opening. This opened the door to a whole new body of work.
